Bonderite M-MN 111 (was Granodine 111) generates a heavy manganese-iron phosphate coating on ferrous metals to create improve wear resistance and maintain lubrication. The inert crystalline phosphate coating formed by the Bonderite M-MN 111 process is useful in reducing wear on moving parts such as piston rings, camshafts, especially during running-in. Bonderite M-MN 111 eliminates metal to metal contact and holds lubricants between moving parts, and the minor initial roughness of the surface is quickly polished smooth. As a direct result of its action, wear and tear is reduced, seizure may be prevented, fretting corrosion eliminated, and component life greatly increased. In addition to moving parts, Bonderite M-MN 111 is suitable for use on castings, tools, fasteners, and other components which can be stained and oiled but not easily painted. Bonderite M-MN 111 is applied by a straightforward accelerated hot-dip process controlled by simple tests demanding no specialist knowledge. Immersion time is 5-20 minutes in a bath of 3-10% Bonderite M-MN 111 at 95-100C. Components are first chemically cleaned or degreased, rinsed, and then immersed in the Bonderite M-MN 111 bath. Further rinsing with water and a final Bonderite M-PT type rinse is followed by drying and sealing. The Bonderite M-PT type rinse imparts increased corrosion resistance to the finished product. The outstanding protection created by the Bonderite M-MN 111 process will often last the lifetime of the component. As well as providing an excellent substrate for oiling, staining, and some paints, it prevents rust creep beneath the surface in the event of the film becoming damaged.
